Salt Lake City, Utah – Often, it’s wonderful to see Salt Lake City and Utah receiving high rankings in comparison to other states and cities nationwide. This time, it’s a no.

A significant inversion has taken hold over the valleys of northern Utah, creating an illusion that the mountains have vanished from view.

But how severe is the situation? Quite unfortunate.

At 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Salt Lake City reported the second worst air quality in the United States, trailing only Los Angeles according to the latest real-time IQAir rankings. Utah’s capital city is presently in the moderate range, whereas Los Angeles falls into the unhealthy for sensitive groups category.

In a global comparison, Salt Lake City ranks 26th overall, trailing significantly behind cities in Bangladesh and India.

CURRENT POOR AIR QUALITY RANKINGS
1. Dhaka, Bangladesh
2. Kolkata, India
3. Lahore, Pakistan
4. Karachi, Pakistan
5. Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Residents of Utah can expect to maintain their high rankings for the next few days, as the current inversion is set to persist throughout the week and potentially extend into Sunday.
