Utah – A former Miss Rodeo Utah queen is mentoring young girls in Utah by utilizing her passion for horseback riding and rodeos. She’s teaching them more than that, though.

“We train ladies how to confidently enter an interview. McKardy Kelly, a Midway resident, said, “We teach girls how to stand up in front of a crowd and give a speech.” “We provide them with all of those skill sets so they can compete for future employment.”

Kelly competed in the Miss Rodeo America contest in Las Vegas last December on behalf of Utah. She has participated in rodeo queen competitions since she was a young girl. She was the first Utahn to win the title of National High School Rodeo Queen in more than ten years, back in 2019.

“I spent a lot of my early years traveling to rodeos,” she remarked.

Kelly placed third runner-up in the pageant. Since then, she has been hosting workshops to get young ladies ready for future Miss Rodeo Utah pageants, despite not winning the title. In addition to teaching kids how to ride horses, Kelly also serves as a mentor in leadership and communication.

“The arena is where all of the work takes place,” Kelly stated. “Practicing and working hard teaches these young girls how to succeed in the future.”

So far, Kelly has conducted clinics in Moab. Her next clinics are:

• Rodeo Queen Basic Training in Tremonton from March 14–15;

• Rodeo Queen Boot Camp in Ogden from February 26–March 1.
