West Valley City, Utah – The West Valley City Council will now decide the future of the well-known Redwood Road Drive-In and Swap Meet.

“I think my children, the community, and the community’s children should have the right to that same monument and that same experience of the Redwood Drive-In,” said business owner Abigail Gutierrez.

In an attempt to save the lot, supporters and vendors came together on Friday night. To raise awareness, they marched and cruised through West Valley City.

It supported me during my two years of college, and for many of these vendors, it provides their primary source of income. A complete community is being uprooted, not just a few individuals, according to Gutierrez.

The location was rezoned from a commercial lot to a residential area in June by a vote of four to two on the planning commission.

“They heard over 100 testaments of these vendors and they still did not care,” she claimed.

They now want to raise awareness one last time before the September 17 municipal council vote.

Another business owner, Ruby Soto, recalled going to the Swap Meet every Sunday with her family when she was fifteen years old.

Every Sunday, Soto now brings her own children. She hopes that the family custom will continue.

“I believe we succeeded with the community’s support.” We have it,” Soto remarked.

“Everybody’s here helping out, supporting, and we’re going to make things happen.”
