Over 1,800 new COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths added in Utah
Salt Lake City, Utah — According to the Utah Department of Health, 1,874 new COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths are reported on Friday, while 573 people are currently hospitalized with the disease, with 209 of those people in an intensive care unit.
School-age children account for 407 of the day’s new cases. Utah health officials reported 212 cases in children between 5 and 10, 98 cases in children between 11 and 13, and 97 cases in children between 14 and 17.
The rolling, seven-day average for positive tests is 1,540 per day. The average positive rate of those tested is 17.8%.
Health care workers administered 8,400 vaccine doses since Tuesday’s report, bringing the total doses given in Utah to 3,803,135. The Utah Department of Health reports that 59.5% of eligible Utahns are fully vaccinated and 66.4% of eligible Utahns have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
During the last 28 days, the data from Utah has shown that individuals who have not been vaccinated have faced 15.8 times more risk of dying from COVID-19, 10.9 times more risk of hospitalization, and 4.8 times more risk of testing positive for COVID-19.
Over the larger time period, since Feb. 1, 2021, health officials reported unvaccinated individuals have been 8.4 times more likely to die from COVID-19, 7.1 times more likely to be hospitalized, and 3.5 times more likely to test positive.
Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, 24,457 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19, according to Utah Department of Health data, and 3,286 Utahns have died.
