Salt Lake City, Utah – An unusually mild start to February has led to the official closure of Midway’s famous ice castles after just two weeks of operation.

After temporarily halting ticket sales earlier this week, Ice Castles made their season-ending closure public on Friday, February 7. At first, it was thought that the ice castles would only be closed temporarily, with plans to try to reopen by the beginning of next week.

However, because “it has been much warmer than anyone could have anticipated,” Ice Castles CEO Kyle Standifird stated that they will not be accepting guests again until the following winter.

“Despite all of the challenges Mother Nature has presented us with this year, I am immensely proud of our crew and their perseverance in building a magnificent castle,” Standifird remarked. “We are already anticipating the upcoming season.”

He stated that although the company made every effort to remain open as long as possible, the season had to be shortened. According to the firm, thousands of people purchased tickets even though the ice castles were only accessible for two weeks this year.

We never know how long we will be able to operate each season because it is a weather-dependent event. Ice castles, as we always say, are a delicate dance with Mother Nature.

According to the press release, Mother Nature decided she just wanted to dance briefly with winter this year.

Since its initial opening in 2011, Utah’s ice castles have grown to be a popular winter destination. Since then, the owner has extended the trademarked ice castles to Colorado, New Hampshire, and Minnesota, among other places.
