Salt Lake City, Utah – The Salt Lake City School District responded to rumors and speculation a few days after Dr. Jared Wright, the principal of West High, was abruptly placed on leave.

The Salt Lake City School District announced on Monday, January 13, that Assistant Principal Wayne Culley had been appointed “Acting Principal” at West High. The representative did not give into greater detail, but stated that the school was in good hands.

According to the school district, they must give employees due process and maintain the integrity of those procedures in accordance with board policy and state and federal regulations. The school system said in a statement issued on Friday, January 17, that any additional remarks regarding Dr. Wright’s departure would be “inappropriate.”

However, the abrupt change in leadership without further information sparked rumors and conjecture. One of those stories was that Wright was put on leave because he and others allegedly expressed worries about school safety at West High.

In an effort to clear up any confusion, the Salt Lake City School District stressed that the two have nothing to do with one another.

According to the district’s statement, “We take the safety of our West High School community – and all of our school communities – very seriously.” “We all want our employees and students to learn and work in the safest environments possible, so we fully support our employees in voicing their safety concerns.”

The school district stated that it will keep collaborating with the administration and employees of West High School to resolve any safety issues that have been brought up.
