Kids can take ‘Hockey 101’ instruction from the Utah Hockey Club
West Heaven, Utah – The Utah Hockey Club opened a series of clinics called Hockey 101 at Mountain View Junior High School in West Haven on Saturday as part of its initiative to expand hockey across the state.
There is no ice involved, and children ages 8 to 14 are welcome. Rather, the clinics focus on teaching children the fundamentals of street hockey.
“We’ll concentrate on shooting, passing, and stick handling. At the end, we’ll play some entertaining scrimmages. The Utah Hockey Club’s director of youth hockey programs, Kristen Bowness, stated, “We just want this to be fun.”
Eight years old A student in Hockey 101 named Stella Erickson already knows how to excel in the sport.
She stated, “I like to score goals,”
Additionally, things became a little chaotic when the clinic attendees were asked to scrimmage.
Weston Montgomery, a student in Hockey 101, described the event as “very crowded and just lots of fun.”
One major “no-no” exists at the clinic. One of hockey’s most thrilling shots is something the teachers don’t want to witness.
The “no slap shot” regulation is being emphasized. Our top priority when holding these clinics is safety,” Bowness stated. Therefore, we place a lot of emphasis on keeping the stick on the ground and ensuring that the blade touches the ground. In essence, the primary goal is to protect the face, hence we don’t want the blade to go any higher in front or behind.
Every NHL player has participated in street hockey at some point, according to Bowness, suggesting that the clinic may create some future NHL players.
“If I put forth a lot of effort and do my best. Alex Overdiek, a 9-year-old student in Hockey 101, stated, “I might wind up there.”
What are your thoughts? It is impossible to teach confidence.
