Double-fatal crash caused by road debris, driver arrested
Kaysville, Utah – A crash happened at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the interstate near Burton Lane.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, a catering company lost its load of canvas bags on Interstate 15 Tuesday night, sparking a chain reaction crash that turned fatal for two people.
Emergency crews were notified that multiple critical patients were involved and extraction was needed.
According to officials, two cars stopped or attempted to stop for the canvas debris when a green Ford F-250 came upon the stopped cars and crashed into a red Toyota Prius. The Prius then collided with a silver Chevy Malibu.
Officials say two people inside the Prius, a male, and female sustained fatal injuries and died on the scene.
Another man was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.
The people inside the Malibu were taken to the hospital by ground ambulance in serious condition.
The driver of the Ford sustained minor injuries and was arrested for driving under the influence.
