A man killed after shooting in Kearns
Kearns, Utah — A 23-year-old man was shot and killed in Kearns Tuesday night.
Officials with the Unified Police Department said the shooting happened on Impressions Drive near 5600 South.
According to UPD Sgt. Melody Cutler, the victim, who was identified Wednesday as Fernando Amaya-Higareda, of Kearns, was driving near North Park when the suspects approached him. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
“There were shots fired, and that male driving that truck was struck by that gunfire,” Cutler said. “His vehicle rolled southbound, where it came to a rest in the park.”
According to police, the suspects fled the scene, but officers found them and took them into custody with some help from witnesses.
Cutler said the male suspects are 16 and 17 years old.
Investigators believe this wasn’t a random shooting. They are working to figure out their exact relationship and the motive.
