45th annual Utah Asian Festival
Salt Lake City, Utah — The 45th annual Utah Asian Festival was supported by thousands of people.
Outside the Utah State Fairpark, 20 food vendors served up anything from curry to boba tea.
Inside the Grand Building, 40 different groups showed off their talents on stage. “We like to share our tradition and culture with the public,” festival chair Eunice Lane said.
Sara Thai, a restaurant at the event, opened just six months ago. “We want to express that, real Thai flavor that needs to be shown here in Salt Lake City,” owner Chaisith Ning Crook said.
Serina and Sheela Wright tried Thai curry puffs and the chicken lollipop from Sara Thai’s booth. “We’re Filipino Americans ourselves,” Serina said. “I think it is really important to us to show we’re here, our culture is still here, and we’re bringing it with us wherever we go.”
The festival started in 1978. “This is the one day, one place, one event to unite all of our Asian communities together,” festival co-chair Emilio Manuel Camu said.
