Salt Lake and West Valley Police investigate early-morning shooting
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — A teen remained hospitalized Monday afternoon with multiple gunshot wounds following an early morning shooting in Salt Lake City. Police from two different agencies are now investigating after the victim was found in West Valley City.
This all began at 900 South about 1450 West around 2:30 Monday morning.
Multiple gunshots were fired, several of them hitting a white Lexus which then sped away from the scene.
Then just before 3:00 a.m., that Lexus was spotted by police on 3500 South and 2800 West with its rear window shot out.
Ironically that’s right across from West Valley police headquarters.
There were four men inside, one of them suffering multiple gunshot wounds.
“So these occupants in this vehicle had said that a shooting happened in Glendale and it just so happened we found a scene but we didn’t have any victims,” said SLCPD Sgt. Keith Horrocks.
Meanwhile when Salt Lake police learned their report of shots fired was linked to the Lexus in West Valley, they took the other three men in for questioning.
“We’ve got blood in the roadway so we know somebody was shot there, we have a handgun that was found on scene along with either a bullet or a shell casing,” Sgt. Horrocks said. “And these folks had said that they were in Glendale so that’s kind of where we were making that connection.”
The young man who was shot was later upgraded to stable condition.
Gang detectives are now trying to figure out what led up to the shooting in Salt Lake City.
Two handguns were located inside the stolen Lexus and police are trying to determine whether or not those weapons were stolen.
