453 more COVID-19 cases, 3 deaths, 29K vaccinations reported Friday in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s number of COVID-19 cases has increased by 453 on Friday, with three more deaths and 29,117 vaccinations reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.
All three of the deaths occurred before March 1 but were still being investigated, according to the health department.
The health department now estimates there are 10,181 active cases of COVID-19 in Utah. The rolling seven-day average number of positive cases per day is now at 418, according to the health department. The positive test rate per day for that time period reported with the “people over people” method is now 7.4%. The positive test rate per day seven-day average calculated with the “test over test” method is now 3.8%.
There are now 130 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 50 in intensive care, state data shows. About 69% of intensive care unit beds in Utah are now occupied, including 74% in the state’s 16 referral hospitals. About 54% of non-ICU hospital beds are occupied as of Friday, state data shows.
The new numbers indicate a 0.1% increase in positive cases since Thursday. Of the 2,361,969 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 16.2% have tested positive for COVID-19. The number of total tests conducted since the pandemic began is now 4,177,366, up 16,782 from Thursday. Of those, 6,095 were tests of people who had not previously been tested for COVID-19, according to the health department.
The three deaths reported Friday were:
- A Davis County man who was between the ages of 45 and 64 and was hospitalized when he died
- A Millard County woman who was between the ages of 45 and 64 and was hospitalized when she died
- A Weber County man who was between the ages of 45 and 64 and was not hospitalized when he died
Friday’s totals give Utah 383,713 total confirmed cases, with 15,400 total hospitalizations and 2,091 total deaths from the disease. The health department now estimates a total of 371,441 Utah COVID-19 cases are now recovered.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox and other state officials provided a COVID-19 pandemic update at a news conference Thursday.
