Workers at Salt Lake Airport are controlling a ground water leak in the concourse tunnel with a sump pump
Salt Lake City, Utah – Workers at Salt Lake International Airport are still looking into a leak that caused a tunnel between two concourses to flood.
Since the leak on Monday, March 11, inundated the tunnel with groundwater, they have been using a sump pump to control the water levels. Even though the leak was quickly cleaned up, its source is still unclear.
According to airport officials, the leak caused issues for almost three hours, during which time a utility corridor was opened to traffic while repairs were made.
To stop similar situations in the future, airport spokesperson Nancy Volmer stated on Friday that they were still investigating how water entered the tunnel.
The airport is scheduled to be completed in 2026, although building will continue for a few more years.
