Man detained in West Valley City on suspicion of killing his father with a hatchet
West Valley City, Utah – Following his father’s death on Friday, a guy was taken into custody, and according to the police, he admitted to killing him in an unsettling way.
Police in West Valley City reported that they were called to 4700 S. 4675 West. The caller claimed to have witnessed 46-year-old Jeremy Ross Pulver leaving the area and telling them that he had killed his father by beating him. After locating John Culver, Jeremy’s father, officers and emergency personnel verified his death.
Later on, Jeremy was located and placed under arrest. According to the police, during their interview, he confessed to killing his father.
Jeremy claimed to have been with his father since Wednesday and that he had told him he wanted to pass away. Then on Friday, Jeremy “worked up the confidence to kill” John, as stated by the authorities. He informed the authorities that when he first tried to suffocate his father with a plastic bag and rag, the father resisted. Then he claimed to have taken a hatchet and repeatedly struck his father in the head with it. Subsequently, he claimed to have filled his father’s mouth with baking soda after discovering that this was a way to confirm someone’s death.
Police said that Jeremy gave them the location of the hatchet and that the crime scene seemed to support his version of events.
